At the Gold River Fire Department, ongoing training is a cornerstone of our commitment to deliver the best emergency response possible for our community. This past weekend, our team had the privilege of working alongside experienced trainers from the Oyster River Fire Department to complete intensive Pumper Operations training & certification.

Why Pumper Operations Matter
A fire engine—often called a “pumper”—is at the heart of firefighting operations, responsible for providing water and managing pressure at the scene of a fire. Pumper Operations training ensures our team can quickly, safely, and efficiently supply water from various sources, operate pumps under pressure, and support other firefighting tactics when every second counts.
Highlights of the Training
With guidance from our colleagues at Oyster River, our firefighters expanded their skills in:
- Properly positioning apparatus for optimal access and safety
- Sourcing and maintaining a continuous water supply from hydrants, static sources, and tankers
- Operating and troubleshooting pump systems under varying pressures and conditions
- Utilizing hoses and nozzles for effective fire suppression
- Practicing coordination and communication during simulated fire attack scenarios
Our hands-on drills included real-time scenarios to build confidence, teamwork, and readiness for any emergency situation in Gold River—from residential calls to wildland fires and mutual aid response.

Mutual Respect, Shared Knowledge
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the instructors and firefighters from Oyster River Fire Department for sharing their expertise, professionalism, and camaraderie. Training together not only raises our technical skills but also strengthens the bonds of cooperation between our departments.
What This Means for Gold River
Gold River’s rural setting means our firefighters must be ready to respond quickly and adapt to different challenges, including limited or unconventional water sources. Completing advanced Pumper Operations training ensures we're always prepared to protect our community’s homes, properties, and people with the highest standard of care.
